That first time magic?

As for classics, I recommend The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. I am so glad I reread it - what a great love story! I also went out and purchased quite a few classics: Emma, Persuasion, Sense and Sensibility, Northanger Abbey, and Mansfield Park - all by Jane Austen. I also picked up Little Women by Louisa May Alcott and Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. These are all sitting on my shelves just waiting to be read.Kristinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18361326880689146372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7332949619779347854.post-88480631440930868862010-03-25T09:02:39.748-06:002010-03-25T09:02:39.748-06:00Carin, I was kind of embarrassed to admit it myse...Carin, I was kind of embarrassed to admit it myself :) Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check those out too. I'm really trying to branch out on the things that I read and connecting with you guys is helping me to do that.Teresahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01337919035210017251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7332949619779347854.post-46005154465006144412010-03-24T20:19:38.362-06:002010-03-24T20:19:38.362-06:00Wow, I'm both thrilled you read this and kinda...Wow, I'm both thrilled you read this and kinda horrified you hadn't already read it but I guess there's got to be a first time for everyone! My other fav Austens are Persuasion and Emma. But for other classics, I suggest The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins (the very first mystery), Dracula by Bram Stoker (see what all the hype is about and it's totally worthwhile), The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark (short, sweet, and sassy), The Loved One by Evelyn Waugh (funniest book about a pet cemetary ever.) Have fun!Carin Siegfriedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07278383926500248048noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7332949619779347854.post-56614763166215824212010-03-24T13:25:46.923-06:002010-03-24T13:25:46.923-06:00I'm ashamed to admit I've never read any J...I'm ashamed to admit I've never read any Jane :(Tales of Whimsyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10938494589922620170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7332949619779347854.post-33668538791628831792010-03-24T13:17:04.072-06:002010-03-24T13:17:04.072-06:00Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them ou...Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out.Teresahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01337919035210017251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7332949619779347854.post-30170860233486066152010-03-24T10:50:42.835-06:002010-03-24T10:50:42.835-06:00Teresa, I liked this book too and then when I watc...Teresa, I liked this book too and then when I watched the movie with Keira Knightly I was a total gonner for Jane Austen stories! Here I was in my 50's before I ever read it :)

If you want some recommendations, then another Jane Austen book I really liked was Persuasion, oh and Mansfield Park.

And then there are two others that I recommend, Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre. I love those two even better than the Jane Austen books.

Nice review!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
